State OceanKids 

The State OceanKids event is now open. 

At last, a race for the kids.  Kiwi kids love to spend the summer at the beach, so it is wonderful that now they too can participate in ocean swimming - one of New Zealand’s fastest growing sports. The emphasis will be on fun, swim and water safety, and the opportunity to learn new skills.  All kids will receive coaching and training advice from a New Zealand swim team member, and members of Surf Life Saving New Zealand will support every race.  What an event! 

Everyone is a ‘winner’ just for completing the swim!

To enter, all kids must be at least 10 years of age as of the day of the event and be capable of swimming 200m competently in a pool.  Entry fee is $20 per child.

What can our kids expect to see and do on the day?

• Get their event pack at registration
• Be in a State OceanKids group photo with a New Zealand Swim team member
• Learn some important ocean swimming and safety tips
• Take part in the in the 200m ocean swim – A two-wave start, the first wave being the boys, followed by the girls two minutes later (or the other way round to some times ;-)
• Every finisher will receive a certificate at the finish line
• Simply put – they’ll have a GREAT day
