Posted on 20/01/2010 at 15:54I would say wear a wetsuit if you can. Sure 750 is not a long swim but if it's cold, you have a swell and chop the wetsuit will at least give you buoyancy. I have swum 3.8k in a wetsuit, and I would swim 750 in a wetsuit (unless it was Hawaii :-) Go with what YOU feel comfortable doing. As charmayne suggests, if you choose the wetsuit, practice in it as the impact on the shoulders can be a little more in a wetsuit - until you get use to it. Enjoy. |

Posted on 12/01/2009 at 20:38Hi all I am a competant swimmer currently swimming 1000m each morning in the pool (it would be more, but I am building up as I am sooo unfit). I haven't done any ocean swimming before. I plan to the 750m swim at Mt Maunganui on 21 March 09. I want to know if I should wear a wetsuit for this event or not? Will most people be wearing wetsuit for the 750m event? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks James |

Posted on 15/01/2010 at 12:36This seems so long ago now. 750m is just a baby swim now. |

Posted on 17/08/2009 at 23:23The 750 swim is not that long. Most people don't wear a wetsuit for that distance but your choice. You do need to train in the wetsuit if you have not used one before because they can feel clastrophobic if you afre not used to them. |

Posted on 21/01/2009 at 16:28If you live around the Mount area i would be keen for a training session. You could try 750m with and without a wetsuit on at Pilot Bay and see what you preffer. |

Posted on 16/01/2009 at 07:42Hey James. I would go for a few swims in your wetsuit as well, but wearing a wetsuit is a good idea because it helps with your buoyancy! Good luck. |
