Beginning Training

Posted on 07/10/2009 at 09:41

Hi all, I have just started training today, have completed 500m this morning. I haven't swum a large distance for quite some time so am wondering what is the best way to go about preparing for the 2.8km harbour crossing? All advice gratefully received!

Hi there! I'm actually from Balmoral (Mt. Eden) but I'm thinking about join your group next weekend. Last season I did the Bays and Rangitoto Swim after I haven't done any swimming professional since probably 8 years. I am 28 now and I was a professional till I was 20. I never ever did open water swims before that time, but I was so keen in crossing the harbour (from Rangitoto) that I did the Bays Swim as a general test, and 2 weeks later the Rangitoto Swim. Of course the results were not really good, but I arrived! ;-) This season I'll try to get much better and do some exercises before all the swims. But doing exercises alone is boring. So I will probably join your group. I also put a ad on gumtree: http://auckland.gumtree.co.nz/c-Community-sports-sports-partners-looking-for-swim-exercise-partner-perhaps-Ocean-Swims-W0QQAdIdZ161031903 Maybe we'll find some more interested people! :-) You can write be an email, if you like and get my cellphone number: Miguel2009NZ@hotmail.com Cheers! Hi there squad training at your local pool would be the way to go!! tell them your goals the instuctor should tell you that you are strong enough, dont rush into the 1st event build up distance. I think there are 8 or 9 swims in the Auckland area alone, so no rush. Also swimming is more enjoyable with other people you push each other without knowing. Frank
