Trying something new
Alexandra Wilson is new to Ocean Swimming and decided there is no time like now!
I can't believe I am actually doing this, first writing this piece and then the actual swim. I guess this is just another way to remind myself constantly that I can do this and that I just need to relax and enjoy the whole process. It's been a bit overwhelming and daunting to do this type of swim in the ocean, I don't have experience swimming in the ocean and this year I told myself that I would do it: "no more excuses". I've been looking at the Ocean Swim signs the past 4 years and always came up with an excuse why it wasn't the right time. Well, the time has finally arrived and there is no turning back (especially after buying a wetsuit and sharing my story here) and here I am 20 + days before the event with butterflies in my stomach with only two ocean practice swims hoping to get some more under my belt so my confidence levels go up (in desperate need).
I've always loved swimming and used to spend hours playing in the pool with my sister but proper swim training started only 7 years ago when I had an interest in getting into triathlons (done two of the sprint in 2002 in Sydney). What am I hoping to achieve? For me it is trying something new that puts me in a new territory, out of my comfort zone and that once I have done it, it would become another affirmation that everything is possible when you believe and put your heart and mind to it.
I would like to thank family and friends for all their support and encouragement as well as my pool buddies from Centennial Pool for letting me practice with them. Alexandra Wlison, originally from Mexico.
